Festive Cheer

Not officially a Christmas event but we ended November with the Patronal Festival at St Katherine Cree. A celebration of the St Katherine Cree community!

We started Christmas in Leadenhall market, at the switching on of their Christmas Lights. It was a lovely evening, complete with snow and mince pies and gave us an excuse to have a small choir social afterwards!

We returned to Lloyd's for carols by the Rostrum and also joined a number of Carol services across the City, including the Insurance Institute Carol Service, the congregation of St Helen’s Undershaft and also the Mission to Seafarers. We were also invited to lead the carols at private functions within the Insurance Market.

Our Christmas Concert was the culmination of our festive season, whilst it clashed with Election Day, we had a wonderful audience who joined in our carols with lots of enthusiasm. Colin Spinks from St Katherine Cree joined us on the organ and Meridian Brass also joined us for the eighth year in a row! We were very proud to dedicate our performance of Ian Brentnall’s setting of Thou who wast rich beyond All Splendour to Howard Higgins, a member of the choir who died in November. Howard sang with us for many years and will be sadly missed. We were delighted to perform the UK premier of The Great Doxology by Filip Pavlov and also to have Philip Spratley, composer of Both All and Some in our audience. Thank you to Alana, Vikki, Charlie and Anne for our fabulous solos and to Redempt Resourcing for sponsoring our Reception.

New members who may like to join us next term, please do get in touch. Our Spring Concert takes place on Wednesday, April 1st at St Giles Cripplegate and features a new work by Jacques Cohen written in memory of our late member Christine Didelot. Christine was a committed and passionate choral singer and stalwart of our Altos for several years, and died in 2017. We are hugely excited about performing this new work in her memory and showcasing our marvellous Altos!

Until then, all at Lloyd’s Choir wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
